Messy Thanksgiving holiday Monday ahead

Saturday, October 11, 2014, 11:42 AM - If you planned your Thanksgiving get-together for Saturday or Sunday, you've lucked out.

Aside from a few showers off of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron, those days are looking slightly chilly, but relatively sunny.

"We have high pressure dominating for two days, keeping us cool, but calm," Weather Network meteorologist Brett Soderholm said Saturday.

Perfect conditions for viewing the fall colours, although cold mornings will be the bane of gardeners and harvesters.

STAY TUNED: GoPro footage of the Falls will be coming up Sunday morning.

Frost advisories were issued Saturday for most of the south of Ontario, looking ahead to Sunday morning.

"Under clear skies and light winds, overnight low temperatures over southern Ontario are expected to drop down to the freezing mark or a few degrees below the freezing mark," Environment Canada warns. "As a result, widespread frost is expected tonight. The only areas that will have slight above freezing temperatures are areas very close to the lakes. Temperatures are expected to be a few degrees milder Sunday night with the only areas at risk over eastern Ontario."

As for Monday, the good news is that high pressure that's keeping things cool and seasonal will start moving out of the region Sunday night, ushering in warmer air that will have the region feeling like high 20s by Tuesday.

But the bad news is that the warm-up will bring scattered showers as well.

Amounts for most regions, including the Greater Toronto Area, are forecast to be less than 5 mm, but Windsor could get as much as 30 mm, Sarnia 20 mm and communities along Lake Huron and Georgian Bay 30 mm.

However, Weather Network forecasters are keeping an eye on that system, so check back often for updated info the close we get to Monday.
