Saturday, January 30, 2016, 6:58 AM - On January 8, 2016, Jason Wells and his friend Pete Rennie were working at Viamede Resort in Woodview, Ont. when they noticed a deer was trapped in the middle of a frozen lake.
"We walked the edge of the lake and came around a point and there the deer was, about 200 yards from shore," Wells told The Weather Network via email.
"Sprawled out and frantically trying to get to its feet, we knew it didn't have a chance on its own."
Wells and Rennie sat at the shoreline for about 15 minutes trying to figure out how they could help.
They decided to drag the deer to safety by its hind legs.
"Once on shore, the deer took off under its very weak legs. It then stood there for a few minutes trying to regain itself, then slowly trotted on," Wells says.
"We were thrilled we could help."
