Woman caught using a stuffed animal as a passenger in Washington HOV lane

Tuesday, September 30, 2014, 4:52 PM - Washington State Patrol pulled over a woman speeding in the carpool lane and found a giant teddy bear in her passenger seat.

Officers had to remind the 19 year-old woman that a stuffed animal doesn't qualify as a passenger.

State troopers didn't realize the stuffed animal was in the car until the windows, which were tinted, had been rolled down.

From the outside, all officers could see was a second silhouette in the car.

“There was a big old bear there. Her contention was that the bear was up there because there wasn’t enough room in her minivan,” Trooper Mark Francis told the Seattle Times.

The woman was fined for driving 74 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone, driving without insurance and driving illegally in the carpool lane.

She was given a $818 ticket.
