Thursday, January 14, 2016, 8:56 AM - Clean-up efforts continue across eastern Canada, while forecasters keep an eye on another weekend storm. Snow flurries hit parts of the Prairies and BC braces for a soggy weekend. Here's your Thursday weather brief.

Atlantic Canada

  • Maritimes: The clean-up continues across the Maritime's after Wednesday's storm dumped upwards of 20 cm of snow on some places. Wind will gradually ease through the day Thursday, with sea-effect flurries possible for Cape Breton. Cold temperatures in the wake of the storm will also dominate the region Thursday. "Next Nor'Easter to impact the Maritimes on Saturday," says Weather Network meteorologist Matt Grinter. More details here.
  • Newfoundland: Heavy snow and powerful winds continue to impact the province with difficult travel reported in some places. "The system moves out of Newfoundland Thursday morning with strong winds and sea-effect snow to take over western and southern areas," Grinter says.

Ontario & Quebec

  • Ontario: Snow squalls finally weaken and dissipate across southern Ontario Thursday morning, with a few quick centimetres possible in heavier squalls. "The next system starts to venture into southwestern Ontario early Thursday afternoon bringing light flurries and a chance for up to 2 cm of snow," Grinter says. "The front then moves into the GTA by the early afternoon hours with the chance for 1-3 cm."
  • Quebec: A dry and cool day day with a small chance of flurries in Montreal Thursday afternoon. "A warm front pushes into Montreal overnight with a light dusting likely," says Grinter.

Western Canada

  • Prairies: Snow flurries expected through Alberta today as a clipper system moves through. "Temperatures in the western Prairies around seasonal before the cool down Friday and into the weekend," Grinter says. "High pressure will dominate this weekend."
  • British Columbia: Two waves of precipitation set to move in over the weekend giving heavy rainfall amounts through Monday.
