Monday, January 11, 2016, 6:04 PM - A large crowd gathered around the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon Sunday to watch the partial demolition of the 107-year-old Traffic Bridge.
The demolition went ahead as planned, and without incident. A series of explosions sent the two southern spans of the bridge crashing to the ground in a matter of seconds.
Police and firefighters maintained a 250-metre exclusion zone around the bridge to prevent injuries from flying debris.
Officials plan to replace the bridge with a more modern design.
There are plans to demolish the northern portions of the bridge at a later date.
