Snow drought? No problem: Toronto man trucks in snow for wife's birthday

Friday, January 23, 2015, 7:27 PM - Ted Kralka wasn't going to let the 2015 snow drought affecting southern Ontario get in the way of celebrating his wife's birthday.

The Toronto man had snow trucked in from the Georgian Bay area to surprise his wife for her 69th birthday on Thursday.

He used it to arrange the words "Happy birthday Hania" on the grass.

She told the Toronto Sun she was surprised when she looked out the window of her condo and saw the message.

"Instead of getting a gift in hand, why not get her a sign that could last for however long the snow stays?" son Kris Kralka, who help build the sign, told the Sun Wednesday.

While conditions have been dry across southern Ontario, the trend may not last through the season.

"As we make the transition from winter towards early spring, typically we do see the weather pattern become more active and storm tracks across the southern United States start to shift north, closer to the Great Lakes," writes Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham.

"The long range models are in reasonably good agreement that precipitation amounts across southern Ontario will be close to “normal” for the month of February as a whole. Normal precipitation with below season temperatures certainly would provide the potential for a couple of significant snowfalls during February."
