"A big, bad trough moved into town bringing below seasonal conditions," says Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton.

Frost advisories that were issued for southern regions were lifted by early Friday morning. Still, several places woke up to chilly single digits, including the city of Edmonton, Banff and Jasper where morning temperatures were just slightly above freezing.
"It's a cool start to the weekend across the Prairies, but there will be a quick warm-up starting with Alberta and spreading east for the start of next week," says Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham.
There will be a day or two of daytime highs in the upper 20s and lower 30s before another shot of cooler weather arrives midweek.
"A significant low pressure system will develop east of the Rockies in Alberta early next week and track east across the central Prairie provinces through midweek," says Gillham. "The final week of August looks to be warm for Alberta and cooler than seasonal times for the eastern Prairies."
