Saturday, August 4, 2018, 12:07 PM - After days of wild thunderstorm activity on the Prairies and ridiculously large hail across parts of Alberta, the storm threat slightly diminishes for Saturday. More on the timing, below.

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Cold front on Saturday brings risk for more thunderstorms through the eastern Prairies, particularly southern Manitoba
  • Primary threats are hail, strong winds, and heavy downpours - although funnel clouds are possible for Saskatchewan

SATURDAY'S THUNDERSTORM RISK

Friday night brought severe storms to southern Manitoba, culminating in tornado warnings, with more severe weather on tap for Saturday.

"A cold front will continue to slump south across central regions of all three prairie provinces, bringing the risk for scattered non-severe storms on Saturday," says The Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg. "Funnel clouds are also possible across central and northern regions as an upper level trough treks east, providing extra energy and spin in the atmosphere for weak funnel formation."

Southern Manitoba has the greater chance of seeing stronger storms through the afternoon and early evening hours, with hail and strong winds the primary threats.
