Firefighters rescue a scared dog stuck on a frozen lake

Saturday, January 5, 2019, 3:34 PM - While frozen lakes can be fun for skating on during the winter time, they present hazards for animals that can lose grip and become stranded.

This was the case for this Golden Labrador, who found himself stuck in the middle of a frozen lake in Pecel, Hungary, shown in the video above.

Despite the pup's fears, he patiently waited for the firefighters to crawl onto the ice so they could bring him to safety.

Dressed in special apparel that would allow for higher traction on the ice, the firefighters slid themselves and a sled towards the dog, who was not able to walk.

This is not the first time this winter that rescuers had to resort to creative measures to save animals struggling with ice.

Last December an Alberta Fish and Wildlife officer put his roping skills to action and saved a deer that was drowning in a partially frozen dugout.

By tying a lasso out of some spare rope, he was able to swing the rope and secure the struggling deer, who was then pulled to safety.

Another incident in December involved a cat that was struggling to escape a partially-frozen lake in Hobart, Indiana.

Darden Schurg, a 21 year old student and college wrestler, dove into the icy waters to rescue the cat, and the video has since gone viral.
