Evacuations in California amid mudslide fears

Tuesday, December 2, 2014, 3:14 PM - Desperately-needed rain in drought-stricken parts of California has led to at least three mudslides along the Pacific Coast Highway Sunday, weather.com reports.
The slide forced the closure of a 14 kilometre stretch of land and officials say the road could remain inoperable for days.
A slow-moving storm is set to hit the region, elevating the risk for additional debris flow.
Some parts of southern California could see up to 127 mm of rain by Wednesday.
Street flooding has already been reported in several communities.

Evacuations have been issued for the communities of Azsua and Glendora ahead of the rainfall.
Sand bags are being offered to residents, particularly in the Silverardo Canyon area, where flooding is expected to be intense.
Local fire departments are working hard behind the scenes to ready their teams for water rescues.
On Sunday, up to 15 cars were stranded on the side of the Pacific Coast Highway due to the mud slides.
All the motorists were rescued, and no injuries were reported.
