Sunday, September 11, 2016, 9:20 PM - Days after the first snowfall warning of the season, summer seems like a distant memory for ski resorts across Western Canada with fresh powder showing up on many mountain cameras.
"High elevation snow through the day on Sunday, with the evening being of particular interest for southern foothills, especially extreme southern foothills where freezing levels drop near 1000 m for Monday morning (reference: Calgary elevation is 1045 m)," says The Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern. "Frosty starts on Sunday onward through the beginning of the week with many at or near the freezing mark."
This is the fourth snowfall Sunshine Village in Banff, Alberta has seen since last season, according to spokesperson Kendra Scurfield.
"It makes me very excited," Scurfield told CBC. "This most recent snowfall is the biggest snowfall we've seen to date and the snow is all the way down to the upper village, where the gondola is. Hopefully it starts sticking around soon."
However, don't get your hopes up ski and snowboarders. Warmer air is expected to rush over the Rockies Tuesday onward, bringing temperatures well above seasonal for the latter half of the week across the west, explains Wenckstern. Some mountains could approach the 20s by mid-week.
