Traffic grinds to a halt as wind blows hundreds of thousands of dollars around the city of Dubai

Tuesday, February 24, 2015, 7:30 AM - Hundreds of thousands of dollars of unknown origin rained down from the sky in Dubai earlier this month, bringing traffic to a standstill.
The incident occurred on February 11 and there's still no word on where the money came from.
Thousands of 500 UAE Dirham notes -- worth about $170 CAD -- were transported through the city by strong wind.

Motorists abandoned their cars to collect the notes.
It's estimated that as much as three million Dirham -- or $685,000 CAD -- were distributed across the city.
"It was a very windy day. [My wife] was stuck in the traffic. She saw all this money," one local told the Daily Mail.
"It was just raining money. It was 500 AED notes which is worth quite a lot. It was a lot of money."
Police quickly arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.
