Sunday, January 27, 2019, 11:36 AM - A drone was able to capture a shocking scene on the Hudson River in Albany, New York, where a series of runaway vessels barreled down the river and crashed into a bridge.

The video above shows how the rapid thaw that occurred in the region resulted surging temperatures that helped cause the river ice to break.

The loosening ice combined with the flowing waters forced the vessels to rip from their moorings and sent them floating along the river current for over 9.6 kilometres (6 miles).

Police officers closed bridges downstream to help stop the runaway traffic, but as seen in the video, the vessels were able to spin around the pillars and pass under the bridges.

Tug boats were eventually deployed and were able to save all of the runaway vessels. Police have stated that no injuries were reported.
