Wednesday, January 7, 2015, 5:51 PM - Wild koalas stranded in South Australia by devastating wildfires have been accepting water from residents, and one such incident has been captured on film.
"A scorching hot Summers [sic] morning and a heat stricken Koala not getting enough moisture from the drying Gum leaves," reads the video's description, which appears on YouTube.
"Many die throughout Summer [sic] here ... I came across this little chap in a distressed state so I offered a helping hand from my water bottle and he drank eagerly without hesitation. No idea if it survived, but when they get this thirsty there is a good chance that Kidney [sic] damage has set in already ... but one can only hope."
Firefighters remain on high alert across the region as hot summer temperatures fan bush fires.
In the Adelaide Hills region, the fires have scorched more than 12,000 hectares of land. As many as 38 houses have been destroyed.
