Three hospitalized after Quebec's ice hotel catches fire

Tuesday, January 9, 2018, 4:10 PM - Three people were taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after Quebec City's famous ice hotel caught on fire.
The incident occurred Tuesday, at 1:15 a.m., originating from a guest room. The entire hotel was evacuated.
Some of the rooms, which are completely made out of ice, are lit by candles. It's believed one of the candles may have sparked a fire on some bedding, but the cause remains under investigation.
While the flames didn't do much damage to the hotel, smoke quickly traveled through the structure.
Guests staying in the room where the fire started alerted staff and emergency crews were on the scene within 15 minutes.
"When I received the phone call they had to repeat twice that there was a fire in the ice hotel," manager Jacques Desbois told the CBC.
The hotel will be closed to the public until at least Wednesday. It's the first time a fire has been reported at the hotel in its seventeen-year history.
Quebec's Ice Hotel is located at the Village Vacances Valcartier in the Laurentian Mountains. It operates every year between January and April.
