Photographers capture breathtaking photos of sea creatures

Tuesday, December 30, 2014, 2:59 PM - Aquatilis Expedition is a three-year, crowd-funded project that has captured some breathtaking photos of the world's deep sea creatures.

The project aims to explore the planet's oceans while unveiling how human activity has influenced local ecosystems.

A team of biologists and photographers have set on on a custom-built yacht which will serve as their home until 2017.

"The places we sail to will take our breaths away with their beauty, or with their danger," the team writes on its Facebook page

"The use of the most cutting-edge technology will give us the opportunity to scrutinize gelata in their natural glory. Our experiences will be broadcast all over the world, encouraging everyone to embark on their own journey of discovery."

Breathtaking photos have already emerged from the team's travels.

They're presented on Facebook without comment, with no word on the name or species of the animal featured -- but their work focuses on different species of jellyfish. At any rate, the photos serve as a powerful reminder that the ocean is a booming ecosystem that must be protected.
