Thursday, October 30, 2014, 9:21 AM - Old Man Winter could pay a visit to parts of Ontario on Halloween Friday.

Temperatures are expected to dip below the freezing mark for some areas and snow – yes, snow – is possible in southern Ontario, including the GTA on Friday and into Saturday morning.

"Many communities will see the first snow flakes of the season Friday," says Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton.

"Areas further north and west in the GTA may see some accumulation on grassy surfaces by Saturday morning."

Wet flakes are expected to start falling around 8 p.m. Friday evening in cottage country. Mixing will potentially begin in the pre-dawn hours for the GTA.

While accumulation isn't expected in Toronto, the snow may stick in the surrounding area, adds Hamilton.

Meanwhile, a special weather statement has already been issued by Environment Canada for the Greater Sudbury area and North Bay, where the first significant snowfall of the season is expected.

"Precipitation is expected to begin as rain -- wet snow mix over Greater Sudbury early Thursday evening, then quickly change to all snow as it heads to the North Bay area," says EC in a statement. "Current indications suggests that total snowfall amounts could be in the 10 to 15 cm range northeast of Georgian Bay, with 5 to 10 cm possible elsewhere."

Snow is expected to taper off Friday night as the low pushes south.
