Friday, April 6, 2018, 12:40 PM - A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck about 140 km west of Los Angeles Thursday.
While there were no damage reports, authorities say it was one of the strongest quakes to hit the area in recent years.
The tremor was so strong, it startled at least one male eagle who was watching over his three chicks.
Video of the eagles, captured by a Channel Island National Park live nest cam, shows papa bird briefly leaving his nest to survey the scene before returning to check on his young family.
Thursday's earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean around 12:29 p.m. local time.
No tsunami warning was issued.
