Light, fluffy snow headed for parts of Alberta and BC

Monday, January 5, 2015, 6:12 PM - Light to moderate snow is headed for southern and western Alberta, beginning Monday night and continuing into Tuesday.
Flurries are expected to start falling across parts of Alberta Monday evening, accompanied by light winds.
Snowfall will be of the fluffy, powdery nature, and will accumulate over several hours overnight.
Calgary can expect to see between 10-15 cm by Tuesday morning, while the city of Edmonton will only see trace amounts.
A deep freeze has gripped parts of the Prairies for days, including Alberta, with average temperatures feeling between -30 and -40 with the wind chill.
Despite relatively light accumulation totals, the combination of snow, breezy conditions and frigid cold will make for tricky travel on the roads Tuesday morning.

Most of the snowfall accumulation will take place in the Rockies along the Alberta/British Columbia border, in the B.C. Rockies, and along the Alberta/United States border.
The added snow may be just what skiers want in their forecast, but it threatens to heighten the risk of avalanches, and warnings already in place in southern B.C.
A weekend snowstorm elevated the avalanche risk on Monday, and prompted the closure of at least 3 B.C. highways.
