Iphone X screen freezing in cold weather

Friday, November 10, 2017, 6:18 PM - Earlier this week, complaints surfaced on the content-sharing site Reddit and on various social media platforms about Apple's iPhone X freezing in cold weather.

"I've noticed that my iPhone X screen becomes very unresponsive as soon as I step outside," Reddit user Darus214 posted.

"It literally takes 2 seconds from going inside to the cold outdoors and my screen stops being very responsive. I try swiping on websites and it doesn't register my finger. It's very noticeable. Is anyone else having this problem?"

Turns out he isn't alone, although the reports have been sporadic.

Other users have seen their keyboards stop working in the cold. The problem appears to be more pronounced when a user goes from a warm interior to a cold environment. The spike in complaints coincides with the bout of cold weather that has gripped much of Canada and the U.S. this week.

Apple confirmed the glitch to CBC Friday.

"We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment," a spokesperson for the company told the news outlet.

"After several seconds, the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update." On its website, the company says Apple products work best temperatures ranging from 0 to 35 degrees Celsius.

Apple's latest smartphone doesn't come cheap, retailing for up to $1,570 before carrier contract discounts are applied.
