That's the message Adam Turnbull, 28, of Alberta is trying to get out in his now-viral Facebook post.
On October 28, Turnbull was fishing in Strathcona Park when he caught a northern pike. The centre of its body was compressed due to being caught in a plastic wrapper.
Turnbull removed the plastic and released the fish back into the water.
Speaking with Global News, Turnbull says he showed the photos to a biologist who said the fish likely swam into the Powerade ring when it was smaller and grew into it over time.
Despite the deformity, the ring did not appear to impact the fish's organs. Removing the plastic will likely increase its chances for survival.
Turnbull's images have been shared more than 18,000 times.
