Sunday, August 20, 2017, 6:44 PM - The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) reports that former tropical storm Harvey has weakened into the remnants of a tropical cyclone, with a 50% chance of restrengthening over the next 48 hours.

The remnant tropical system will move west-northwest across the central and northwestern Caribbean Sea over the next couple of days, NHC said in a public advisory on Sunday night.

"The system is expected to reach Belize or the Yucatan Peninsula on Tuesday, and then move into the Bay of Campeche by the middle of the week, where redevelopment appears more likely," the advisory read.

Two additional systems on radar

NHC is monitoring two systems in the Atlantic Basin that both have a low possibility of developing into tropical cyclones.

The first, located at least 200 km north of the Dominican Republic, has a low chance of developing over the next to two to five days. That being said, conditions are more favourable for development by midweek.  As of Sunday night, the storm was producing thunderstorms and strong winds.

The second storm is associated with a trough of low pressure, and was located more than 1000 km east of the northern Leeward Islands of the West Indies on Sunday night. The storm has only a 10 per cent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next two to five days.
