"We have an exciting day planned Thursday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Disney’s “it’s a small world” attraction, including online and in-park sing-alongs, musical performances and even a special Google Hangout with Disney Legend Richard Sherman," said Disney Parks on its website.
The global celebrations kicked off early Thursday morning with a live sing along at Good Morning American in Times Square in New York.

The "It's a Small World" ride first debuted at the 1964 New York World's Fair in support of UNICEF. Two years later, it moved to the Disneyland Resort in California and was expanded into a major attraction, which is now featured in all of Disney's theme parks.
The song was written by brothers Richard and Robert Sherman and was meant to convey peace, happiness and respect.
"To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Disney's "it's a small world," we set out to record people around the world singing "it's a small world" in their own language, adding their own color and cultural flavor to the mix," said Disney Parks on the YouTube video post. "What surprised us the most was perhaps the fact that no matter where we went or how remote it got, everyone knew the words to the song, proving it really is a small world after all!"
