THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL ALLOW SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 247 TO EXPIRE AT 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN OHIO THIS ALLOWS TO EXPIRE 1 COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST OHIO LAWRENCE IN WEST VIRGINIA THIS ALLOWS TO EXPIRE 16 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL WEST VIRGINIA CLAY NICHOLAS WEBSTER IN NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA POCAHONTAS IN SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA BOONE FAYETTE KANAWHA LINCOLN LOGAN MCDOWELL MINGO PUTNAM RALEIGH WYOMING IN WESTERN WEST VIRGINIA CABELL WAYNE THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ALUM CREEK, BECKLEY, CEREDO, CHAPMANVILLE, CHARLESTON, CLAY, COWEN, CRAIGSVILLE, FAYETTEVILLE, GARY, HAMLIN, HARTS, HOLLY RIVER STATE PARK, HUNTINGTON, HURRICANE, IRONTON, KENOVA, LAKE VESUVIUS, LOGAN, MADISON, MAN, MARLINTON, MULLENS, OAK HILL, OCEANA, PINEVILLE, RICHWOOD, SAINT ALBANS, SOUTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH POINT, SUMMERSVILLE, TEAYS VALLEY, WAR, WAYNE, WEBSTER SPRINGS, WELCH, AND WILLIAMSON.

Description

At 905 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8 miles west of Holden, or 11 miles north of Williamson, moving southeast at 25 mph.
Hazard: Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include Williamson, Man, Delbarton, Holden, Mount Gay-Shamrock, Red Jacket, Chattaroy, Hinch, Buskirk, Matewan, Mount Gay, Verdunville, Chauncey, Myrtle, Switzer, Pie, Dingess, Varney, Sarah Ann, and Meador. This includes Route 119 between mile markers 1 and 27.

Recommended Action

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM EDT for southern West Virginia.
