But with humidity, the air felt more like 73 C, the CBC reports. The Huffington Post reports that temperatures felt close to 68 C.
The hottest day on earth was recorded in July 1913, when California’s Death Valley was amidst a heatwave. Temperatures climbed to 57 C, breaking a world record as the highest temperature recorded.
The Weather Network expects the record of high-40s temperatures to persist in Bandar Mahshahr for the week ahead, with a forecast high of 50 C on Friday, August 7.
Situated near the Persian Gulf, Bandar Mahshahr is the capital of Mahshahr County in Iran’s province of Khuzestan.
West of Iran, the Iraqi government declared a four-day holiday after temperatures soared above 50 C earlier this week. The holiday began on Thursday.
