Northern Lights and Proton Arcs

425 views Ray Majoran May 28, 2017 London, ON Date shot: May 27, 2017

What an incredible night! Around 9:30pm, I got an alert that there was a good chance the northern lights were going to be out. It was perfect conditions -- moon was setting (almost in a New Moon state), it was mostly clear, and it was fairly warm (which meant I wouldn't freeze). I drove about 35 minutes north of London, and the geo-storm started speeding up. I stayed out until 1am, until I finally called it a night. Lights were amazing, and a proton arc kept forming and disappearing; at one point, it scaled the entire sky. I'll post more on my Instagram account (@raymajoran) in the coming days. You can also view my article from a couple of years back on viewing (and capturing) the Northern Lights in low-latitude places, if you're interested in that kind of thing: http://yourbreathinme.com/journals/the-northern-lights-an-educational-guide-from-a-lower-latitude-photographer/
