MUST SEE: Colorado storm drops baseball-sized hail

Tuesday, May 9, 2017, 5:12 PM - A violent hailstorm rolled through Denver, Colorado Monday causing widespread property and vehicle damage.

The severe system caused a ground hold for flights at Denver International Airport and forced the closure of schools and local businesses, including the Colorado Mills Mall.

According to CNN, Lutheran Medical Center and some of the medical office buildings sustained broken windows. However, no patients were affected and there were no injuries reported.

One motorist in Denver told Reuters that she could feel the impact of the hail "like waves coming."

In some parts of the city, residents had to shovel piles of hail like snow. Golf ball-sized hailstones pelted the region, with some reported to be as large as baseballs.

The system brought tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings to the Denver metro area Monday afternoon. The hail and heavy rain also caused street flooding across the city.

Hail damage was also reported in surrounding areas including, Lakewood, Golden, Arvada and Thornton, CNN reports.

Storms pushed further east into the central and southern Plains Tuesday, bringing similar conditions to the region. This slow-moving system is expected to bring additional rainfall, hail, strong winds and the risk of tornadoes to the region through the rest of the work week.
