
Wintry weather leads to major road closures in Edmonton
A large section of a major road in Edmonton has been closed due to multiple collisions and wintry weather causing poor driving conditions.
Edmonton Police Service said in a news release Thursday night that Whitemud Drive is closed in all directions between the Quesnell Bridge and Gateway Boulevard "as a result of multiple collisions."
"The Edmonton Police Service is reminding all motorists to please slow down and exercise safe driving as the winter weather continues," police said in a news release.
At 10:40 p.m., EPS advised that 23rd Avenue was also closed in all directions between Rabbit Hill Road and 119th Street, as a result of collisions.

There are multiple snowfall warnings in effect across the province, including a heavy snowfall warning in Edmonton. Some areas may see up to 30 centimetres of snowfall by Friday morning.

Alberta RCMP advised motorists to stay off the roads "as weather and road conditions pose a significant hazard throughout the province."
In a news release sent around 8:30 p.m, police said a tow ban is now in effect within the Leduc area, south of Edmonton.
