Wildfire smoke travels 2,000+ km to Ontario this weekend
A significant number of wildfires in western North America will send smoke blowing over Ontario through this weekend
Expect smoky skies across much of Ontario heading into this long weekend as wildfires rage on the other side of the continent.
Smoke generated by significant wildfires burning in British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon will soon blow into the Great Lakes, leading to hazy conditions and possibly vivid sunsets.

Several hundred fires continue burning out of control across western North America this week, with the densest activity across central Oregon, eastern Washington, and southern British Columbia.
The jet stream will combine with a boundary to draw some of that upper-level smoke over the Great Lakes through this weekend.
Hazy skies are likely once the smoke arrives. Showers and thunderstorms expected on Saturday and Sunday may pull some of that smoke down to the surface, leading to periods of low to moderate air quality.
Given that most of the smoke will remain in the upper levels of the atmosphere, vivid sunrises and sunsets are also possible.
Fine particles in wildfire smoke scatter sunlight before it reaches the surface, allowing vivid oranges and reds to fill the sky around dawn and dusk. The moon may also appear a vibrant shade of orange at times.
