Snowy blast will prime the slopes in time for Alberta's spring skiing
Some welcomed snow is in the forecast for Alberta's ski destinations that have been struggling so far this year with below-average snow
March break in Alberta may not be for another couple of weeks, but out-of-province travellers may be flocking to the province's famous mountain slopes in the near future as their vacations start a bit earlier.
The slopes will likely be prime for spring skiing, too, as an atmospheric river washing over British Columbia's coast over the weekend will trigger a series of back-to-back clippers over the Prairies.
Three clippers are set to sweep over the Prairie provinces over the weekend, but the only impactful system will be the final one as it sweeps over Alberta.

Sunday-Monday: Snow descends over the Rockies
Snow that kicked off over the Rockies on Saturday night will continue through Sunday, and into Monday.
The snow will be a welcomed sight for popular skiing and tourist destinations that have been impacted by a below-average season so far, such as Jasper, Banff, and Lake Louise.

Banff has only received 236 cm of snow so far this season, compared to the average 581 cm of snow we would typically see by now.
Jasper has not fared any better, only receiving 89 cm so far—well below the average 302 cm.
DON'T MISS: Why avalanche risks heighten in March
There may be some impacts along the Yellowhead Highway as a swath of moderate snowfall sits over the area. To the east, Edmonton is looking at around 5 cm of snow with this system.

Meanwhile, Calgary will be seeing minimal impacts as the bulk of the snow stays over higher elevations.
This will create an ideal scenario for travellers flying into the province, with minimal impacts expected to airports while a fresh blanket of snow coats the ski slopes.
