Millions of people remain under winter weather alerts as a spring storm moves north from the U.S. northern Plains.
A massive spring storm moved across the northern Plains Thursday, bringing as much as 60 cm of snow in just 24 hours to parts of South Dakota.
Officials were urging residents to stay home on Wednesday - ahead of the powerful Colorado low. Many roads and highways were deemed impassable, including Interstates 29 and 90.
The backside of the storm also brought a wintery mix to parts of Ontario Thursday, where snow, freezing rain and rain was reported.
Schools and city offices were closed Friday due to widespread power outages and snow-clogged roads.
High winds contributed to reduced visibility and blizzard-like conditions.
Minnesota's governor has declared a state of emergency, allowing the National Guard to step in and assist stranded motorists.
