The system affecting Quebec and New Brunswick on Thursday is the same one that brought severe weather to the Prairies earlier this week and to Ontario on Wednesday evening.

Strong thunderstorms rumbled across the region, prompting widespread warnings across the Eastern Townships and the Gaspé Peninsula.

A powerful squall line straddled the provincial border between Quebec and New Brunswick, producing strong winds along its path. Several of the storms developed rotation and required tornado warnings near Rimouski late Thursday afternoon.

Occasional thunderstorms will continue into the evening hours for portions of the two provinces, though the greatest threat for severe weather has diminished with the heat of the day.
