Lightning strike forces multiple families from their homes in Montreal
Multiple families have been forced from their homes, and one person rescued, after a lightning strike sparked fire in a Montreal suburb.
The lightning strike came from the thunderstorm that swept through southern Quebec Thursday afternoon reducing two homes to charred skeletons and severely damaging a third.
The bolt hit one home on Cerisiers Street in the off-island suburb of Ste-Marthe-sur-le-Lac. around 4:00 p.m. and started a fire that quickly spread to nearby houses.

The sound was so loud that all the neighbours came outside and saw the fire, says The Weather Network’s Patrick de Bellefeuille.
A neighbour ran into one of the burning houses and saved a woman who was inside, says de Bellefeuille.
According to CTV News, two people were treated for smoke inhalation on site but did not need to be hospitalized. Nine residents were evacuated from their homes and have been taken in by the Red Cross and family or friends.*
