Rain turns to snow, threat for travel delays and outages through Monday
Mild air that moved into Quebec on Sunday allowed the first batch of precipitation to start as rain across the province.
After the heavy bouts of showers, temperatures dropped and snow began early Monday morning. Snow will continue before tapering off from west to east through the afternoon and evening, so plan ahead for slick roads and slow going if you have to travel.

Totals of 5-10 cm are possible around Metro Montreal, with higher amounts possible east into Monteregie.
This snowfall event is highly elevation dependent across Quebec City, with as little as 5-10 cm falling in the city, and much more across the local ski resorts. In the Eastern Townships, around 15 cm of snow is expected for Sherbrooke and Saint-Georges, with the higher elevations seeing between 20-30 cm of snow.
WINTER 2024: El Niño will play a critical role in the weeks ahead
Anyone planning to travel through Quebec on Monday should plan for rapidly changing conditions. Slick roads and delays are likely as the wet snow piles up through the day.
The weight of the wet snow on tree limbs and power lines will lead to a risk for power outages in areas that see the deepest accumulations. Shortly after the Monday morning commute, about 25,000 customers had lost power already, mostly across the Eastern Townships.
