The Canadian Coast Guard has officially welcomed the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Naalak Nappaaluk to its fleet at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth, N.S., last month.

This state-of-the-art ship can accommodate up to 34 crew members and 26 scientists, and it is primarily designed for offshore oceanographic research.

“Our main job is to focus on science in the offshore environment. We are meant to go out into the high seas, away from the coast, and [conduct scientific] work of every kind,” explained Emmanuel Devred, a research scientist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Additionally, the ship features a fully equipped gym, allowing crew members to stay fit during long hours at sea.
