Thanks to a shift in winds, the ice has since emptied out of the harbour, but it certainly made for an interesting start to the lucrative snow crab season off Cape Breton.
"Even though there wasn't a whole lot of ice outside the Gulf [of St. Lawrence] area, the winds seemed to insist on keeping what was left on our side of the coast, particularly in the Chéticamp harbour area, so it's been presenting more of a challenge than [what] was expected,” Soucy told The Weather Network.
The Gulf of St Lawrence is home to Canada’s second-largest snow crab fishery.
