Storms can leave behind hidden electrical hazards
Downed power lines and damaged equipment can pose serious risks even after the storm has passed
Following a major storm, it may be tempting to go outside and see what happened. However, among fallen branches, damaged homes and scattered debris, some of the most serious threats may be more difficult to detect.
Even if there is no visible sign of electricity, downed power lines can remain live. Damaged service masts can also pose serious hazards, such as sparking, exposed wires and fire.

Staying at least 10 meters away from fallen lines, contacting 911 and your local utility and having damaged service masts inspected by a licensed electrical contractor can all help keep you safe.
