P.E.I. solar installation company says demand is through the roof

The ability to combine both a federal and provincial rebate on residential solar energy systems in P.E.I. has led to a boom in the industry, according to one solar panel installation company in Charlottetown.

You can always tell you’re in Prince Edward Island by the bright red mud beneath you, but it's the solar panels going up above onto residential homes that could soon be as clear a giveaway.

Hansen Solar Energy says business has been booming ever since provincial and federal rebates were allowed to be combined for homeowners installing solar energy systems across the island.

Jeff Rogers told The Weather Network that P.E.I. is home to the best rebates on solar in Canada. He says that, provincially, you can get up to $10,000 based on system size and pair it with the federal government's Greener Homes program where you can get an additional $5,000 on top of that.

Developers are now designing new homes explicitly to make it easy to install solar. The Weather Network toured a development in Stratford, P.E.I. to see firsthand the innovative approach to incorporating green energy. Watch the full report in the video above.
