Description

Gusty winds and cold temperatures will combine to produce hazardous wind chills.

Locations: Baie Verte Peninsula and the Great Northern Peninsula.

Wind chill values: -30 to -35 (coldest over northernmost areas).

Time span: until midday Monday.

Remarks: A west to northwesterly flow of Arctic air is bringing a prolonged period of hazardous wind chills. Little relief is expected until winds begin to ease during the day on Monday.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
