What: Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: Northeastern Wyandotte County in northeastern Kansa
S: Southern Clay County in west central Missouri Jackson County in west central Missouri Southeastern Platte County in west central Missouri
When: Until 500 AM CDT.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.
Additional Details: - At 137 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Kansas City, Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Raytown, Liberty, Gladstone, Grandview, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, Parkville, North Kansas City, Mission Hills, Sugar Creek, Buckner, Riverside, Lake Lotawana and Weatherby Lake. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Heat Advisory
What: Heat index values up to 108 expected.
Where: Portions of east central and northeast Kansas and central and west central Missouri.
When: From noon today to 10 PM CDT this evening.
Impacts: Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
