THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 322 IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN CONNECTICUT THIS WATCH INCLUDES 1 COUNTY IN NORTHWESTERN CONNECTICUT LITCHFIELD IN MASSACHUSETTS THIS WATCH INCLUDES 1 COUNTY IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS BERKSHIRE IN NEW YORK THIS WATCH INCLUDES 4 COUNTIES IN EAST CENTRAL NEW YORK COLUMBIA DUTCHESS GREENE ULSTER THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ARLINGTON, ATHENS, BEACON, CAIRO, CATSKILL, COXSACKIE, DALTON, FLORIDA, HANCOCK, JEFFERSON HEIGHTS, KINGSTON, NEW LEBANON, NEW PALTZ, NORTH ADAMS, PITTSFIELD, POUGHKEEPSIE, AND TORRINGTON.

Description

What: Heat index values between 95 and 100 degrees expected.
Where: Litchfield County in northwestern Connecticut, Southern Berkshire County in western Massachusetts, Bennington and Windham Counties in southern Vermont and the Hudson Valley and central and southern Taconics in eastern New York.
When: Until 8 PM EDT this evening.
Impacts: Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

Recommended Action

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
