Description

The following message is transmitted at the request of the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center. The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center in Mammoth Lakes has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas: Eastern Sierra in Inyo County Eastern Sierra in Mono County
What: The avalanche danger for the warning area is expected to remain at HIGH at all elevations today, 12/25/25. Very dangerous avalanche conditions are expected to continue through Friday morning 12/26/25
Where: The eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range between Virginia Lakes to the north to Bishop Creek to the south.
When: In effect from Thu 07:00 PST to Fri 07:00 PST.
Impacts: Heavy snow combined with strong winds will likely create widespread areas of unstable snow. Avalanches are expected to run long distances and may run into mature forests, valley floors, or flat terrain. Backcountry travel will be difficult and dangerous.
Precautionary / Preparedness Actions: Very dangerous avalanche conditions. Travel in and below avalanche terrain is not recommended. Visit esavlanche.org for more information.
