Description

The National Weather Service in Columbia has extended the Flash Flood Warning for Columbia County in east central Georgia Southeastern Lincoln County in east central Georgia Central Richmond County in east central Georgia West Central Aiken County in central South Carolina Western Edgefield County in central South Carolina Southeastern McCormick County in central South Carolina Until 1000 PM EDT. At 831 PM EDT, The public reported multiple locations with flooding across Evans, Augusta, and Martinez. Water continues flow across areas near William Few Pkwy in Evans. Between 2.5 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.
Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include North Augusta, Grovetown, Evans, Martinez, Belvedere, Fort Gordon, Augusta, Clearwater, Edgefield, Clarks Hill Recreation Area, Riverwood, J. Strom Thurmond Dam, Village Plaza Shopping Center, Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta Mall, Hamilton Branch State Park, Daniel Field, Summerville, Midtown and Glendale. This includes the following highway
S: Interstate 520 in South Carolina between mile markers 16 and 23. Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 0 and 13. Interstate 20 in Georgia between mile markers 182 and 201. Interstate 520 in Georgia between mile markers 1 and 8and between mile markers 14 and 15.

Recommended Action

Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles. Never drive through a flooded roadway or around barricades. Turn around, don't drown. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
