Recommended Action

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.

Flood Warning

Description

What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring.
Where: South Central Washington County in east central Missouri Northeastern Iron County in southeastern Missouri
When: Until 300 AM CDT Saturday.
Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.
Additional Details: - At 707 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported flooding in the warned area. Between 3 and 9 inches of rain have fallen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Ironton, Pilot Knob, Arcadia, Belleview and Granite. - This includes the following State Park
S: Fort Davidson Historic Site and Elephant Rocks State Park.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 480 IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT TONIGHT FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN ILLINOIS THIS WATCH INCLUDES 4 COUNTIES IN SOUTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS WASHINGTON IN SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS MONROE RANDOLPH SAINT CLAIR IN MISSOURI THIS WATCH INCLUDES 16 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL MISSOURI OSAGE IN EAST CENTRAL MISSOURI CRAWFORD FRANKLIN GASCONADE JEFFERSON MONTGOMERY SAINT CHARLES SAINT LOUIS SAINT LOUIS CITY WARREN WASHINGTON IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI IRON MADISON REYNOLDS SAINT FRANCOIS SAINTE GENEVIEVE THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF BELLEVILLE, CAHOKIA, CHESTER, FARMINGTON, SAINT CHARLES, SAINT LOUIS, SPARTA, SULLIVAN, UNION, AND WASHINGTON.
