Red Flag Warning For Most Western And Portions Of Southern North Dakota Today: .Critical fire weather conditions will occur late this morning and into this evening across most of western and portions of southern North Dakota. Minimum relative humidity will fall to around 10 to 15 percent in southwest North Dakota, and around 15 to 20 percent across the northwest and far south central. South to southeast winds will be strongest in the southern James River Valley with sustained speeds around 25 to 30 mph, and 20 to 25 mph elsewhere. Gusts up to 40 mph are possible in the northwest and far south central. Any fires that ignite could spread rapidly and become difficult to control. The National Weather Service in Bismarck has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 11 AM CDT /10 AM MDT/ this morning to 9 PM CDT /8 PM MDT/ this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
Winds: South to southeast 20 to 30 mph, gusts up to 40 mph possible.
Relative Humidity: as low as 10 to 15 percent.
Affected Area: Most of western and parts of southern North Dakota.
Impacts: Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control or suppress.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
