Recommended Action
Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat. Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary. Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Prepare for possible power outages. Extreme Cold Warning

Description

What: For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 16 degrees expected. For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 5 degrees expected.
Where: Portions of central, south central, southwest, and west central Louisiana and southeast Texas.
When: For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 6 PM this evening to noon CST Sunday. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 6 PM Sunday to 11 AM CST Tuesday.
Impacts: Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

Recommended Action

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
