PHOTOS: Unusual April snow is spring wake-up call for B.C. residents

Many B.C. residents were in for a snowy April surprise Sunday morning, with a dusting of the white stuff coating the grounds in numerous low-elevation communities -- but it won't be the last of it.

Call it shock, call it awe, or just call it a case of being caught off guard. Whatever the reaction may be, B.C. residents took to social media in droves Sunday morning to post their visuals of the rare April snow that had just fallen.

While April snow in British Columbia is not out of the ordinary, at least not for the mountain passes, it is eye-grabbing when it falls across communities near sea level at this time of the year.

The snow, which began to filter in Saturday overnight, won't be the last, either. A dynamic setup blowing across the province will bring a couple more opportunities for snow across lower-elevation communities. A cold upper-level trough will send freezing levels plunging toward sea level during bouts of heavier precipitation.

The next snow shot? A system sliding into Washington state by Monday morning means the higher terrain of Vancouver Island once again can accumulate some snow. Heads up if travels take you across Highway 4, also affectionately known as "The Hump."

And then...another upper trough pivots towards Vancouver Island later on Tuesday. It seems all of these lows want to move in during the overnight, which helps accumulate snow this time of year. The April sun often zaps any snowfall opportunity during this time across lower terrain.
