So far, more than 5,000 fish have been safely removed and transported upstream

Efforts to free thousands of trapped sockeye and chinook salmon in the Fraser River in B.C. are continuing, with more than 5,000 already moved to a new location upstream.

The fish became entangled, likely sometime in the fall last year, after a big bar landslide blocked its route, making any passage impossible. The obstruction wasn't discovered until June this year.

The number freed so far is just a drop in the bucket, as upwards of two million salmon spawn in the river every year.
