Island Health has posted a statement regarding Thetis Lake. There have been many cases of illness due to norovirus after visiting the beach at Thetis Lake Regional Park between June 6th and 8th 2014. Over the next few weeks Island Health will be continuing with increased sampling of this beach. For further information visit www.viha.ca.The July 2 2014 samples indicated elevated levels of E. coli bacteria at this beach. However the July 8 2014 samples have resulted in the swim warning to be lifted at this time.The beach at Lower Thetis Lake is a popular swimming spot during the summer months. The sloping beach here in Thetis Lake Regional Park is sandy and may be a tad crowded on really nice days. There are changeroom facilities here and a lifeguard is on duty. Hikers can enjoy the groomed trail that loops Upper and Lower Thetis Lake and take a dip in the water to cool off. Fishing and canoeing are also popular here and more remote beaches along the lakeshores can be found by boat or canoe.Thetis Lake is monitored weekly between May and September.
