Stum Lake is to the east of White Pelican Provincial Park on the Chilcotin Platue. This area provides a sanctuary for the white pelican and the park is managed to protect the bird. The park also protects habitat for moose and aquatic fur-bearers. No camping is permitted.Stum Lake is closed from March 1 to August 31 in order to protect the white pelican nesting colonies. The white pelican is very sensitive to disturbances such as boats low-flying aircraft and even nearby hikers. The white pelican is an endangered species in British Columbia its breeding population that comes to Stum Lake in the warmer months spends its winters in southwest California and off the Pacific coast of Mexico.Viewers may view these pelicans at Nazco Lake Provincial Park and in other lakes around the Chilcotin.This beach is not monitored nor do we have any data on it. While it may be safe to swim please check with your local authorities or watch for posted signs.
